Description: This map uses tie National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) flow line features (NHDFlowline) to portray the new flow pattern created by the formation of Mardi Gras Pass, in the vicinity of the Bohemia Spillway, in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana.
The NHDFlowlines demonstrate how the pass conducts water across the Bohemia Spillway and into the back-swamp on its way to Breton Sound and the Gulf of Mexico.

- Title: Mardi Gras Pass Flow Pattern in the Mississippi River Delta of Louisiana
- Author: J. E. Mitchell, Ph. D., Geospatial Services Manager, State of Louisiana/LADOTD IT GIS Manager.
- Comments: This map uses tie National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) flow line features (NHDFlowline) to portray the new flow pattern created by the formation of Mardi Gras Pass, in the vicinity of the Bohemia Spillway, in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana.
This is an important new geographic feature on the Louisiana coast and the Mississippi River Delta, because it creates the first natural break in the Mississippi River Levee System that provides continuous flow of Mississippi River water into the adjacent coastal swamp and marsh habitats. It has also become an important navigation route in the local region. The NHDFlowlines demonstrate how the pass conducts water across the Bohemia Spillway and into the back-swamp on its way to Breton Sound and the Gulf of Mexico.
- Subject: On Mardi Gras Day, February 21, 2012, a natural distributary formed in the Mississippi River Delta. Mardi Gras Pass is the first outlet in a centuary
