Description: This layer contains the 2014 final Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) "Principal Arterial" functional classification of public roads. They have a Functional Class designation of: 3. These are based, in part, on the 2010 US Census data release, to perform a comprehensive review of the road system. The LADOTD headquarters staff works in cooperation with the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) across the state. Every decade, this process is used to develop and maintain an up-to-date functional classification system for all public roads in Louisiana. Road functional classifications are provided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), using a process in accordance with Federal Regulations, CFR §470.105(b)(1), that stipulates LADOTD and the MPOs shall cooperate with local government officials to provide the opportunity to review the proposed functional classification systems, urban boundaries, and make recommendations for changes to them.
